According to CalRecycle, 1 in 4 Californians don’t have enough to eat with roughly 11.2 billion pounds of food going to landfills each year (some still fresh enough to have been recovered). To reduce food waste and help address food insecurity, SB 1383 requires that by 2025 Californians recover 20% of edible food that would otherwise go to waste and redistribute it to feed people in need.
